Best Category Award for Published Non-fiction
Patricia L. Brooks, MAOM is a 2025 AZ Authors Association Literary Contest Best of Category award-winner for her non-fiction book Write the Memoir You’re Afraid to Write.
She is a Publishing Consultant, Advocate for Women Writers, Author of three memoirs and a facilitator for the V. G. Piper Writing Center at Arizona State University. She will give a free talk on this topic on a Zoom call on January 17th, 2026.

Presentation Description: In an encouraging and insightful presentation, Patricia will help you capture the essence of your untold story, share with you how to produce a memoir to your own satisfaction, face your fears, and conquer the story’s emotional beats. With techniques from writing her own daring memoirs, and those she has helped others write, Patricia will inspire you to take the necessary steps to bring your work to fruition. The workshop also includes a question-and-answer session and an activity following her presentation.

She will also teach this workshop in an eight-week extended format for the Arizona State University Piper Writing Center starting Saturday February 28th through three Saturday mornings in March, 10:00 am to 12:00 noon. Again, contact her for details. The workshop at the ASU campus.
Author Bio: Patricia is president/founder of Brooks Goldmann Publishing Company, LLC, and Scottsdale Society of Women Writers. She has managed both since 2005. Patricia is a sought-after workshop/keynote speaker while teaching memoir writing at ASU’s Piper Writing Center. And various other locations. She is a recent recipient of the AZ Authors Association Award for Best Category – published non-fiction for her book on writing memoir.
She is enthusiastic about storytelling in her award-winning memoirs: Sick as My Secrets is a powerful memoir told by a strong woman who overcame her desperate need for alcohol.
