WHY:             Mission:  Scottsdale Society of Women Writers gives members access to events of interest, a format for exchanging ideas, an opportunity to network with other women writers/authors in camaraderie and support, and an alliance with professionals for writing, publishing, and marketing.

SPEAKER/AUTHOR: SOPHIA MCGOVERN

Sophia McGovern is a writer and bookmaker with over ten years of experience editing for local presses. She is the founding editor of Little Somethings Press and has won grants from the Arizona Commission on the Arts, City of Tempe, and Mesa Arts Center. Her writing has won contests and a Pushcart Prize nomination, and can be found in Fiction Attic Press, the Arizona English Journal, and other publications. She lives in Tempe with her writer-man, new baby, and cat.

Sophia McGovern is a writer, editor, and bookmaker from Tempe. Her memoir-in-progress, Tiny Rebellions, explores both sides of a generational gap in a series of vignettes juxtaposing the perspectives of a little girl and a new mother. The meeting is being held at the Panera Bread in Gainey Ranch in Scottsdale, 8777 North Scottsdale Road, off Doubletree.

GUESTS: If you have a GUEST, please text Patricia at 480-250-5556, or have your guest contact her directly. Guests may visit on two occasions, and then we ask them to join us as full-time members.

PRICING: Meeting cost is $20.00: this covers the food and the room. The menu will consist of sandwich choices, salad choices, chips, cookies or brownies, and a variety of beverages. The food at this venue is fresh and good.

DUES: Dues are $50. For your membership, you will receive a copy of the directory, the monthly newsletter, member support at all Scottsdale Society of Women Writers events, and other happenings with the group and the area’s writing community. Plus, a plethora of professional speakers will be scheduled during the year.

CHECK-IN: Please check-in at the restaurant between 5:15 and 5:30 pm. This allows you to mingle, go through the buffet line and settle in for the meeting. The meeting starts promptly at 6:00 pm AZ Time.Thank you.

  • Support and challenge each other to always be writing.
  • Help members to stretch as writers and reach lofty personal goals.
