WELCOMES DEENA GOLDSTEIN to speak October 25th. This award-winning artist and stand-up comedian has recently penned her debut memoir.

WHO:                ALL Women Writers!

WHY:                 Mission:  Scottsdale Society of Women Writers gives members access to events of interest, a format for exchanging ideas, an opportunity to network with other women writers/authors in camaraderie and support, and an alliance with professionals for writing, publishing, and marketing.

WHAT: SPEAKER Deena Goldstein. Award-winning artist and former stand-up comedian pens her debut memoir, OK Little Bird. Deena’s artwork has been featured in solo and collective exhibitions, receiving numerous honors for her original acrylic and digital works. Now “Little Bird” shares the unique, irreverent, and inspiring relationship with her quirky loveable, cowboy father, as she navigates the deep waters of grief, teaching us that humor can help heal from unbearable pain and loss.

Deena’s flair for humor and all things offbeat makes this an unforgettable read.

Deena’s work has been recognized internationally. She provides author talks to grief groups, on podcasts and at in-person events. Upon its’ release, OK Little Bird, quickly gained traction, receiving the Shelf Unbound Magazine’s 2022 recommended read list.  Additionally, Goldstein’s book has been selected by SoScottsdale’s August 2023 edition, as a featured book, as well as Phoenix Magazine and other publications. Renée Siegel has been a counselor and coach for over 40 years. While the pandemic raged, she and a colleague found a way to help many who were struggling. They co-authored a book about trauma, called “Reclaiming YOU,” released on October 25, 2022.
“We started out crafting this book to help others. In the process, the book, helped me, my family and friends. We were all going through things that were out of the ordinary, and sometimes traumatic,” says Siegel.

This is Renée’s third book, others are “Lost and Found” and “Considering the Enneagram.” Renée is currently writing her first children’s book, hopefully to be released sometime next year!
“You may find yourself wondering if you have challenges, stress, and/or trauma in your life. Hopefully, after we meet you will be able to distinguish what the differences are and come away with some ideas and coping strategies for 2023,” says Siegel.

“Reclaiming YOU” is filled with information to help you better understand trauma. Real people gave permission to the authors to share their stories, including their resilience. Finally, Renee and her co-author compiled several strategies people use to manage and move through trauma based on their personality type.

Andrea Brundage is a Professional Organizer & Bringer of Calm. She founded Simple Organized Solutions (SOS) in 2003 to help people who struggle with clutter, chaos, stress, and overwhelm.

Andrea works with clients from all walks of life. From overwhelmed executives to busy families, downsizing seniors, and everything in between.

She released her first book, Simplify Your Life: 8 Simple Principles to Turn Your Chaos into Calm and its companion, the Simplify Your Life Journal, in 2019. She is currently working on a children’s book about organizing.

Time cannot be managed, saved, or spent. Time simply ticks on by and we allocate our use of itbased on our priorities.

  • Value all the professional women writers seeking to share their expertise
  • Honor all genres and all forms of professional writing
  • Attend monthly meetings to move the group and its members forward
  • Learn and share in the experiences of monthly professional speakers

  • Encourage participation by members as mentors, and volunteers
  • Support and challenge each other to always be writing
  • Help members to stretch as writers and reach lofty personal goals

Mission:  The Scottsdale Society of Women Writers gives members access to events of interest, a format for exchanging ideas, an opportunity to network with other women writers and authors, an alliance with professionals relating to writing, publishing, and marketing of books, and camaraderie and support.

SPEAKER – Jessica McCann, Novelist, Freelance Writer and Editor

Jessica McCann is a published novelist and has worked as a professional freelance writer and editor for magazines, universities, corporations and nonprofits for 30 years. Her creative nonfiction and reporting have appeared in Business Week, The Writer, Phoenix, ASU Research and more than 50 other publications. She also is a frequent speaker/presenter at writers’ conferences and book-related events. Her debut historical novel, All Different Kinds of Free, won the “Freedom in Fiction Prize” from The Mackinac Center for Public Policy. Her second novel, Peculiar Savage Beauty was named “2018 Book of the Year” by the Arizona Authors Association.

Author Chuck Wendig recently said, “Every book is a fresh walk into a different dark forest.” It’s true. Once you complete a book and think you know what you’re doing, the next project comes along and you feel lost all over again. During her presentation at the October meeting of the Scottsdale Society of Women Writers, Jessica McCann will share details of her writing journey and provide simple tools that can help any writer better navigate the dark forest.

All those attending the meeting must pay for the dinner/room/speaker.  The cost is noted above.  Pick up your name badge at the front table and ENJOY a wonderful night!
