KRISTINA MAKANSI

SCOTTSDALE SOCIETY OF WOMEN WRITERS

Welcomes Kristina Makansi, Editor and Designer

An Update on the State of Publishing Today

Do you want to understand the publishing maze? Join us!

WHO:            ALL Women Writers!

WHY:             Mission:  Scottsdale Society of Women Writers gives members access to events of interest, a format for exchanging ideas, an opportunity to network with other women writers/authors in camaraderie and support, and an alliance with professionals for writing, publishing, and marketing.

SPEAKER/AUTHOR: Kristina Blank Makansi (pen name Marie K. Savage) is a writer, editor, and designer who has worked on over 160 book projects, several of which have garnered reviews from Publishers Weekly and many that have won the Bejamin Franklin Award, IFFY’s and other accolades. Her own books (including those co-written with her daughters) include Oracles of Delphi, The Sowing, The Reaping and The Harvest, The Trouble with Roommates and The Alchemist of Aleppo.

She will present on the Update of the State of Publishing Today: From self-publishing to hybrids, to small presses, to the big five international conglomerates. In considering which path is best, a writer must not only understand how to navigate the pitfalls of each path but must consider their publishing goals and what they are willing and able to do to achieve these goals. Mastering the craft of writing is just the first step. Before one can celebrate seeing their book in the hands of readers, one must consider proofreading, interior layouts, cover design, pricing, distribution, the role of agents, timelines, advances and finally marketing, which every author big or small, must do to succeed.
