WHY: Mission: Scottsdale Society of Women Writers gives members access to events of interest, a format for exchanging ideas, an opportunity to network with other women writers/authors in camaraderie and support, and an alliance with professionals for writing, publishing, and marketing.
SPEAKER/AUTHOR: Valerie Foster is an award-winning educator, public speaker, and the author of two non-fiction books, and a short story. The Risk of Sorrow: Intimate Conversations with a Holocaust Survivor, is now archived in seven countries. Dancing With a Demon was named Best Nonfiction Narrative by American Book Fest and Finalist by International Book Awards. Her short story, “Loss,” was published in River Poets Anthology. She was also contributing essayist/editor of Women Wronged: Discrimination, Repression, and Sexism from the Sixties to Now. And, if you want to make her grin from ear-to-ear, ask her about SAIL2025 in Amsterdam!
Valerie sees herself as an accidental success, but is she? She will share her unconventional path to having two books with two traditional publishers and second editions released. With several magazine features, radio, television. and public speaking throughout the U.S. and Vancouver, B.C., podcast experience, one book archived in seven countries, and now an audiobook, she has much to share in lessons learned, some the hard way!

NEW VENUE since April: The meeting is at the CHOMPIE’S at 9301 E. Shea Blvd., at the corner of 92nd St. and Shea, Scottsdale. This is our NEW location for 2025.
GUESTS: If you have a GUEST, please text Patricia on 480-250-5556, or have your guest contact her directly. Guests may visit on two occasions, and then we ask them to join us as full-time members.
PRICING: Meeting cost is now $25.00: this covers the wonderful food and the spacious room. The menu will consist of sandwich and salad choices, fruit and/or veggie trays, a special dessert, and a variety of beverages. The food at this venue is fresh and good. I will be changing the menu each month to keep it interesting.
DUES: Dues are $50. For your membership, you will receive a copy of the directory, the quarterly newsletter, member support at all Scottsdale Society of Women Writers events, and other happenings with the group and the area’s writing community. Plus, a plethora of professional speakers appear throughout the year.
